Compass Medical, P.C. has utilized Centricity electronic medical record system for three years, well
ahead of the majority of other South Shore healthcare providers. Electronic medical records improve the quality of patient care, as recognized by healthcare providers and insurance companies. This is an
incentive for providers to automate their patient information system, making patient records immediately available only to providers involved in the care plan. Electronic record-keeping minimizes costly
duplicative testing and posts medication changes, lab and other testing results immediately to the
electronic patient record. This eliminates the need to wait for outside reports to be issued and manually
added to paper charts.
The Boston Sunday Globe printed an article on January 22, 2006, about how to choose a Primary Care Provider. This article, titled "Just What The Patient Ordered ~ Learn How to Take The Mystery Out of
Finding A Good Doctor," stated that a key question to ask when looking for a doctor is whether the
practice has an electronic medical record system. According to the article, "It's important that your
primary care physician is at least moving toward a computer record system. Computers allow physicians
to view lab reports, coordinate care with specialists and hospitals and reduce errors."
