SOUTHEAST MEDICAL CENTER FEATURES MOST ADVANCED DIGITAL RADIOLOGY & IMAGING SERVICES AVAILABLE IN THE INDUSTRY!

Compass Medical, P.C. is one of the first physician networks in the state
to offer such high technology, onsite testing at its new 70,000 square foot facility.

Compass Medical, P.C. is proud to announce that its new Southeast Medical Center, located at 1 Compass Way, East Bridgewater, features the most advanced digital radiology and imaging services and equipment available in the industry. In keeping with its commitment to ensure the highest quality patient care, Compass Medical, P.C. is one of the few physician networks in the state to offer such high tech, on-site testing for its patients.

The Southeast Medical Center testing services include full laboratory and comprehensive digital radiology services, including X-Ray, CT Scan, MRI, bone densitometry, mammography and ultrasound. In addition, a Brigham and Women's Hospital board certified radiologist is onsite at Southeast Medical Center five days a week. With these advanced technologies and systems, Compass Medical, P.C. can produce faster, better quality images, which can be analyzed immediately on high-resolution computer systems and posted directly to the patient's medical record.

“Storing the images electronically also makes them available whenever and wherever they are needed,” said Cynthia Marlborough, Director of Business Development for Compass Medical, P.C. “Imaging tests are now read on specialized, high-resolution computer systems, as opposed to tracking down films that are moved around during evaluation.”

The Southeast Medical Center’s newest radiology imaging equipment is a 64 Slice CT Scanner. This advanced form of imaging creates 64 credit card-thin size images, which total 40 millimeters of anatomical overage. These images are combined to form a three-dimensional view of the patient's anatomy for the physician to analyze. This allows for a more accurate evaluation of the size, shape and position of internal organs, such as the brain, lungs, liver and kidneys. The high-tech scanner also allows physicians to image the heart and its blood vessels with a clear picture, in record time. The information is reconstructed into 3-D views of the heart and coronary arteries, showing signs of early disease in the vessel walls. The results enable the physicians to see signs of disease earlier than ever before, when the disease is most treatable.

“Traditionally, CT Scans have been useful in detecting stroke, cancer, head injuries, herniated discs, fractures and bone and tissue damage. However, studies of the heart were challenging because the motion of the heart made it difficult to capture accurate CT images of blood vessels, also called coronary angiograms,” Marlborough said. “But now, with the advent of the 64 Slice CT, the most advanced form of imaging available, patients may experience a new type of less invasive angiography.”

Shown here, Kathy Stillman, Manager of the Compass Medical, P.C. Imaging and Radiology Department, showcases the high-quality 3-D images of the heart and coronary arteries as they appear from a 64 Slice CT Scanner on the high-resolution computer systems.

The Compass Medical, P.C. Southeast Medical Center also boasts new digital imaging mammography equipment, which provides many benefits over standard film mammography. These benefits include:

  • Improved contrast between dense
    and non-dense tissue
  • Faster image acquisition
    (less than a minute)
  • Shorter exam time (approximately half that of film-based mammography)
  • Easier image storage and retrieval
  • Physician manipulation of images
    for more accurate detection of
    breast cancer
  • Ability to correct under or over-exposure of films without having to repeat mammograms
  • Transmittal of images over a network for “remote” consultation with other involved providers

“Compass Medical P.C’s advanced digital capabilities are a great benefit for the residents of Southeastern Massachusetts,” Marlborough pointed out. “In addition, our clinical relationships with Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, and Eye Health Services, make the breadth an quality of programs and services at the Southeast Medical Center superior.”

Additionally, many specialists from the community will provide patient care at the Southeast Medical Center. These specialists are on staff at South Shore Hospital; Brockton Hospital and several other community hospitals, providing easy access to both comprehensive primary and specialty care.

Compass Medical, P.C will be hosting two events to celebrate the opening of the facility, including a Community Health Fair and tours of the facility on Saturday, October 27th from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. and an SMC 5K Road Race on Sunday, October 28th, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Community residents are invited to both events.
